What Matters Most

Learning That Love Is the Greatest Purpose of Life

There are stories we tell the world… and then there are the untold chapters. This is one of mine.

Good afternoon, my beautiful readers.

Welcome back to The Untold Chapter.

Today I completed Day 16 of The Purpose Driven Life, titled “What Matters Most.”

The point to ponder today was:

“Life is all about love.”

The verse to remember was:

“The entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” — Galatians 5:14

As I sat with today’s chapter, I found myself slowing down and really thinking about what matters most in life.

Not what society tells us matters.

Not what social media tells us matters.

Not what our busy schedules tell us matters.

But what God says matters.

And according to God, the answer is simple:

Love.

Life Is About Love, Not Accomplishments

One of the first highlights that stood out to me said:

“No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.”

That statement hit me hard.

Because if we’re honest, most of us spend a lot of time trying to accomplish things.

We work hard.

We pay bills.

We raise children.

We chase goals.

We build businesses.

We finish degrees.

We check things off our to-do lists.

But God reminds us that none of those things matter if love isn’t behind them.

Love is not just something we talk about.

Love is something we live.

Love is something people feel.

Love is something people remember.

Relationships Matter More Than Projects

One sentence from this chapter kept replaying in my mind:

“Relationships are what life is all about.”

That made me stop and think about how easy it is to become focused on tasks instead of people.

The laundry needs to be done.

The dishes need to be washed.

The garden needs attention.

The blog needs writing.

The bills need paying.

The house needs cleaning.

The list never ends.

Storytime: The Garden Can Wait

As many of you know, I’ve spent a lot of time in my garden this year.

I’ve planted seeds.

Pulled weeds.

Watered plants.

Checked on tomatoes, peas, strawberries, and everything in between.

There have been days when I could spend hours out there.

But while reading today’s chapter, I realized something.

One day, my children probably won’t remember how many weeds I pulled.

They won’t remember how perfect the garden looked.

But they will remember whether I stopped what I was doing to listen to them.

They will remember the conversations we had.

They will remember whether I made them feel important.

That realization really touched my heart.

Because people matter more than projects.

Every single time.

Love Takes Practice

Another highlight that stood out to me said:

“Love cannot be learned in isolation.”

Isn’t that the truth?

It’s easy to love people when everything is going smoothly.

It’s easy to love people when they agree with us.

It’s easy to love people when they make life easy.

But real love gets tested when life gets difficult.

God teaches us love through imperfect people.

Through spouses.

Through children.

Through church members.

Through friends.

Through difficult conversations.

Through misunderstandings.

Through forgiveness.

Those moments stretch us and help us become more like Christ.

Love isn’t proven when life is easy.

Love is proven when life is hard.

The Greatest Gift We Can Give

The section that touched me the most was when the book said:

“The greatest gift you can give someone is your time.”

Immediately, I thought about Avery.

I thought about Rayshawn.

I thought about Maria.

Sometimes we think love is buying gifts.

Sometimes we think love is providing financially.

But people need more than things.

They need our attention.

They need our presence.

They need us to truly listen.

The book said the best way to spell love is:

T-I-M-E.

And honestly, that’s powerful.

Because time is something we can never get back.

When we give someone our time, we are giving them a piece of our life.

The Best Time To Love Is Right Now

One of the strongest lessons from today’s chapter was this:

“The best time to love is now.”

Not tomorrow.

Not next week.

Not when life slows down.

Not when we’re less busy.

Now.

Tomorrow isn’t promised.

Children grow up.

People get older.

Circumstances change.

Opportunities pass.

If there is someone you need to forgive, encourage, call, hug, help, or spend time with, don’t wait.

Love should never be postponed.

My Personal Reflection

As I sat outside reading today, I found myself thinking about my family.

I thought about all the ups and downs we’ve experienced.

The lessons.

The challenges.

The prayers.

The victories.

The growth.

And one thing became very clear.

More than anything else, I want my children to remember that they were loved.

Not because I bought them things.

Not because I solved every problem.

But because I was present.

Because I listened.

Because I cared.

Because I loved them.

This chapter reminded me that when my life is over, God won’t ask how many blog posts I wrote.

He won’t ask how much money I made.

He won’t ask how many accomplishments I collected.

He will care about how I loved Him and how I loved other people.

That is what truly matters.

Today’s Takeaway

If I learned one thing from Day 16, it’s this:

Love is not a small part of life. Love is the purpose of life.

Love God.

Love people.

Make time for those who matter.

Show kindness while you have the chance.

Forgive quickly.

Encourage often.

Help when you can.

Because the best use of life is love.

The best expression of love is time.

And the best time to love is right now.

Motivational Quote

“At the end of life, people won’t remember your accomplishments nearly as much as they remember your love.”

Question For My Readers

Today’s question is for all of us:

Who in your life needs more of your time, attention, and love right now?

Is there someone you need to call?

Someone you need to forgive?

Someone you need to encourage?

Someone you simply need to spend time with?

Take a moment today and let them know they matter.

A Moment of Reflection

Today’s lesson reminded me that God never intended for us to go through life chasing things while neglecting people.

Love is the greatest commandment because love reflects the heart of God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me what truly matters. Help me love people the way You love me. Teach me to slow down, be present, and make time for the people You’ve placed in my life. Help me show patience, kindness, forgiveness, and grace. Let my life reflect Your love in everything I do.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real and I’m still standing, still growing, and still becoming.

One Last Thought Before You Go

Life is full of chapters we don’t always understand while we’re living them. But I’m learning that sometimes the most powerful stories come from the moments we thought would break us.

And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s this: every season of life has a lesson waiting inside of it.

So here’s something I want you to think about today:

What is one person who made you feel truly loved, and how did that change your life?

I would love to hear your story in the comments. Your experience might be the encouragement someone else needs today.

And if this message spoke to you, make sure you come back tomorrow… because I’ll be sharing another chapter of “The Untold Truth.”

Until next time,
