Choosing consistency even when my body was tired and my spirit felt stretched
There are stories we tell the world… and then there are the untold chapters. This is one of mine
Good afternoon my beautiful readers, welcome to The Untold Chapter.
I’m not even going to lie to y’all… I’m tired.
Not just a little tired… I mean that deep, body aching, mind racing kind of tired that comes from doing the work. But at the same time? I’m proud of myself. Because even in the exhaustion, I didn’t quit.
And that right there… that’s what discipline looks like.
What Discipline Really Looks Like in Real Life
We talk about discipline like it’s easy. Like it’s something you wake up with and just “do.”
But let me tell you something…
Discipline hurts sometimes.
It shows up when your body is sore.
It shows up when your mind is tired.
It shows up when all you want to do is stay in bed.
And this week? Whew… discipline showed up heavy in my life.
Storytime: A Week That Tested My Discipline
Let me take y’all back to Thursday.
We went to the Warren Community Center and worked out… and then Friday, we went right back. And when I tell you we worked out HARD… baby, we worked out.
Saturday morning came… and my body was on fire.
Everything hurt.
And me and Avery? We both looked at that bed like, “Yeah… we staying right here.”
But guess what?
We didn’t.
We got up anyway.
That’s discipline.
From Workout to Serving Others
Friday didn’t stop at the gym.
We were there from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM… and then only had a few hours to eat before heading back out again.
Miss Simmons called us to help clean up her church.
Now listen…
My body was already hurting.
I was already drained.
But something in me said, “Go anyway.”
So we went.
We cleaned.
We moved chairs.
We dusted.
We vacuumed.
From 2:30 PM all the way until almost 10:00 PM.
Y’all… we were exhausted.
We even stopped at McDonald’s after, and the line was so long I almost said forget it… but we stuck it out, got our food, went home, and CRASHED.
But we did it.
We showed up.
Learning to Listen to My Body (And Give Myself Grace)
Saturday came… and I’m not even going to pretend.
I was DONE.
My body still hurt.
My energy was low.
Miss Simmons planned to pick us up again, but this time? She canceled.
And honestly… I was grateful.
Because sometimes discipline isn’t just about pushing…
Sometimes it’s about resting when your body says rest.
Small Wins Still Count
Even in the middle of all that…
I’ve been consistent.
✔ I finished my first book (Take Me With You When You Go)
✔ I’m already on my second (The Cousins)
✔ I’ve been working on my blog
✔ I’m getting back into practicing my guitar
✔ I’ve been going to therapy again
✔ I’m staying committed to working out twice a week
That might not look like a lot to someone else…
But for me?
That’s growth.
Choosing Me Even When Others Don’t Understand
Let me tell y’all something funny.
I bought myself a small pink camera.
And my kids laughed.
My husband laughed.
They like, “What kind of camera is THAT?”
But you know what?
I LOVE my camera.
I don’t have to rely on my phone.
I can take pictures, record videos, print memories…
And guess what?
I’m going to use it for my graduation on May 23rd.
I’m going to use it when we go horseback riding.
When we go to the zoo.
When we make memories.
So they can laugh all they want…
Because I’m excited.
And that’s all that matters.
Discipline in Health, Mind, and Spirit
I’ve also been working on my health heavy.
No soda for over a year.
Juicing fruits and vegetables.
Reducing sugar.
Working out.
Riding my bike.
Gardening.
Because let me tell you something…
You can’t just change your body…
You have to change your mind too.
If you don’t heal mentally, you’ll go right back to old habits.
Stress eating.
Overthinking.
Self-sabotage.
So I had to remove stress.
Remove people that didn’t serve me.
And start pouring into myself.
Faith Over Feelings: What God Is Teaching Me
📖 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9
That verse hit different this week.
Because I was tired…
But I didn’t give up.
Motivation for You (And Me Too)
“Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want right now.”
That’s what I’m learning.
And I’m still learning it every single day.
So Let Me Ask You This…
What is one thing in your life you KNOW you need to stay consistent with… but you keep putting off?
A Moment of Reflection
God, thank You for giving me strength even when I feel weak. Thank You for reminding me that discipline is not about being perfect, but about showing up. Help me to stay consistent, to protect my peace, and to keep growing into the person You created me to be. Even when I’m tired, remind me that I’m not alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real and I’m still standing, still growing, and still becoming.
One Last Thought Before You Go
Life is full of chapters we don’t always understand while we’re living them. But I’m learning that sometimes the most powerful stories come from the moments we thought would break us.
And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s this: every season of life has a lesson waiting inside of it.
So here’s something I want you to think about today:
What is one moment in your life that changed the way you see yourself?
I would love to hear your story in the comments. Your experience might be the encouragement someone else needs today.
And if this message spoke to you, make sure you come back tomorrow… because I’ll be sharing another chapter of “The Untold Truth.”
Until next time,
