An Emotional Healing Journey of Choosing Peace in the Unexpected

There are stories we tell the world… and then there are the untold chapters. This is one of mine

A young boy informs his mother that the power has gone out, while she sits comfortably in a robe with a DVD player, prioritizing self-care over technology.

🌿 Self-Control in My Emotional Healing Journey

Good afternoon my beautiful readers 💚

Today has been one of those days… the kind of day that could have easily thrown me off, frustrated me, and had me reacting in ways I’ve been working so hard to change.

But today?
Today was Self-Control Saturday.

And I’m proud to say… I handled it differently.

This is part of my emotional healing journey learning that no matter what happens around me, I still have control over how I respond.

🌼 Storytime: When the Power Went Out

So let me tell y’all what happened.

I went to sleep, and around 5:00AM in the morning I woke up HOT. I mean hot hot 😩 I had to take my socks off because that’s how warm I felt.

I went back to sleep thinking everything was normal.

Then around 7:00 AM, my son came knocking on my door like,
“Mom… the power is out.”

Now y’all… the first thing that came to my mind was:
“The power is out?! I just paid the bill yesterday!”

I’m in Michigan, and it feels like every time you turn around, the power going out.

So I contacted DTE, trying to figure out what was going on, and they told me it was some kind of equipment issue. They said the power would be restored between 8:30 AM and 10:20 AM.

And I’m not even going to lie…
that moment right there?
That was my test.

🧠 Emotional Healing Journey: Choosing Not to React

Because old me?

Oh, I would’ve been frustrated.
Complaining.
Irritated.

But today… I caught myself.

I said,
“Nope. Not today. I’m working on me.”

This is the 6th time the power has gone out, and normally we just bundle up, go outside, and wait it out.

But THIS time was different.

Why?

Because I was prepared.

Y’all… I had my DVD player fully charged 😂💚
I already knew my phone, internet, and computer weren’t about to work. My laptop was dead because I didn’t charge it.

But that DVD player?
Ready.

And that right there taught me something:

👉 Peace comes when you prepare your mind, not just your situation.

🙏 Bible Verse for Self-Control Saturday

📖 “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” — Proverbs 25:28

This verse hit me differently today.

Because without self-control:

  • Anything can trigger you
  • Any situation can shake you
  • Your peace becomes unprotected

But WITH self-control:

  • You protect your peace
  • You stay grounded
  • You stay in control

💛 Motivational Quote

“Self-control is choosing peace even when you have every reason to react.”

🌱 Faith Reflection: Letting Go of What I Can’t Control

Even though the power was out for a few hours… I didn’t let it control me.

The lights came back on around 8:20, and we were all excited. We got up, started cooking, and just appreciated the moment.

And even though the weather is up and down, and yes, I get tired of it…

I still thanked God.

Because I’m blessed.

Highly blessed.

And I keep reminding myself of this:

📖 “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34

That verse reminds me:

👉 Stop carrying what God never asked you to hold.

✍🏽 Real Talk: Why Self-Control Matters

Let’s be honest.

We all want to get mad sometimes.
We all feel it.

But holding on to anger?

It doesn’t hurt the company.
It doesn’t fix the situation.

👉 It hurts YOU.

It sits inside of you like an anchor.

And I’m learning… I don’t want to carry that anymore.

🤔 Question for You

What situation in your life is testing your self-control right now… and how are you choosing to respond?

🌸 A Moment of Reflection

God,
thank You for giving me strength in moments where I could easily lose control.

Help me to protect my peace,
to pause before I react,
and to trust You even when things don’t go my way.

Teach me to walk in self-control daily.

Amen.

My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real and I’m still standing, still growing, and still becoming.

💭 One Last Thought Before You Go

Life is full of chapters we don’t always understand while we’re living them. But I’m learning that sometimes the most powerful stories come from the moments we thought would break us.

And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s this: every season of life has a lesson waiting inside of it.

So here’s something I want you to think about today:
What is one moment in your life that changed the way you see yourself?

I would love to hear your story in the comments. Your experience might be the encouragement someone else needs today.

And if this message spoke to you, make sure you come back tomorrow… because I’ll be sharing another chapter of “The Untold Truth.”

Until next time,
