There are stories we tell the world… and then there are the untold chapters. This is one of mine. It is a glimpse into my emotional healing journey.

Good morning, my beautiful readers. Yesterday was one of those days that reminded me how life can shift in the most unexpected ways. What started as a normal Wednesday turned into a powerful reminder about slowing down, reconnecting, and enjoying the small moments that often pass us by.
Let me take you back.
Yesterday started early. Around 4:30 in the morning, I got up and fed my new puppy, Blueberry. Yes, y’all her name is Blueberry, and she is a little black puppy full of energy. She’s still a baby, so she’s easier to train compared to Otis. Otis was already two years old when we got him, and that made training a little harder.
I ended up giving Otis to Olivia up the street. And honestly, that made the transition easier for me because he’s still close. I can still see him, and knowing he’s nearby brings peace to my heart.
Blueberry, though? She’s the baby of the house now.
After feeding her, I got to work. I cleaned the house, mopped the floors, washed Blueberry down, and then jumped in the shower. Everything felt productive and peaceful. I was ready to sit down and work on my school assignments.
And let me tell y’all something exciting…
Your girl only has TWO classes left.
I am graduating May 23rd, and the closer that day gets, the more excited I feel. After everything I’ve been through, finishing school feels like a huge victory.
But right when I sat down to start my work…
The power went out.
Yep. Completely out.
The outage stretched from 8 Mile all the way to 10 Mile, and nobody knew exactly when it would come back on. The house started getting cold, and for a moment I had a choice:
I could panic…
Or I could make the best of it.
So I chose the second option.
Since I had already planned to finish planting my garden, I decided to go outside and finish planting and labeling my plants. Even though the weather was chilly and my skin tends to itch when it’s cold, I still pushed through it.
And honestly, God carried me through that moment.
Sometimes we think inconvenience is a problem, but really it’s an opportunity.
While waiting for the power to come back on, I ordered pizza for the family and decided to ride my bike in the church parking lot nearby. The church has a big open lot, and it was perfect for riding around.
Then Avery came walking up the street pulling a light green wagon with a jump rope.
The moment I saw that wagon, it took me back in time.
It reminded me of when Raysean was a baby and had a red wagon. Just seeing it brought back memories I hadn’t thought about in years.
Then we started playing with the jump rope.
And let me tell you something…
At 36 years old, your girl still got it.
I was jumping rope like it was the 90s again. The kids were looking at me like I was crazy, but I was having the time of my life. I even told them if the rope was longer, we could try double dutch.
That brought back so many childhood memories.
Back in the day, we stayed outside all day hopscotch, jump rope, bikes, laughter, and talking with friends until late at night.
Kids today are different. Everything revolves around phones, TikTok, tablets, and social media. Sometimes we forget that real joy can still be found outside.
That’s why I told my kids:
Put the phones down.
Go outside.
Move your body.
Create memories.
Blueberry got to run freely in the backyard, Raysean helped me finish labeling the garden plants, and Maria watched us all like we were strange for jumping rope.
But the day didn’t stop there.
While riding my bike in the church parking lot, something unexpected happened.
A memory came back to me.
I remembered my dad riding me on his bike when I was little. I was sitting on the handlebars while he pedaled. My dad was tall around 6’5 so when he rode the bike, his knees would almost hit the handlebars.
It wasn’t comfortable at all, but I remember feeling safe.
Funny how something as simple as a parking lot, a bike, or even a smell can unlock memories we forgot were even there.
That moment calmed me.
It reminded me that healing doesn’t always happen in big dramatic ways. Sometimes healing happens in quiet memories, laughter, and small moments with family.
That’s why this year I created something special in my home:
A Prayer Wall, a Forgiveness Wall, and a Creative Wall.
This year is about letting things go.
Forgiving people.
Healing wounds.
Creating new memories.
Healing doesn’t happen overnight. But every day we take steps forward.
And honestly, this new season of life feels different.
Winter kept us inside for months. But now that Michigan spring is starting to peek through, we’re finally outside again cleaning the garden, planting flowers, riding bikes, and enjoying the fresh air.
This year, I planted a lot of flowers, including lavender. I can’t wait to watch them grow.
And as life keeps moving forward, one thing I know for sure is this:
Create memories.
Forgive the past.
Enjoy the present.
Because sometimes when the power goes out, life turns on.
My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real and I’m still standing, still growing, and still becoming.
🌱 What I Learned From This Moment
• Unexpected moments can turn into beautiful memories.
• Healing happens slowly, one memory at a time.
• Children need more outdoor life and less screen time.
• God can turn inconvenience into opportunity.
• Sometimes joy is as simple as riding a bike or jumping rope.
