Day 4: Made to Last Forever

Learning to Live for Eternity, Not Just Today

There are stories we tell the world… and then there are the untold chapters. This is one of mine.

Good afternoon, my beautiful readers.

Today is Day 4 of my journey through The Purpose Driven Life, and before we dive into today’s lesson, I want to tell y’all about my day yesterday because it was a good one.

A Day Filled With Gratitude

Yesterday, my Auntie Wanda showed us some love.

She came and picked us up and took us to the Detroit Police Department community event. They had vendors, food, games, music, and people selling things they had made themselves.

It felt good to get out of the house and enjoy the day.

I even ended up buying a candle for Avery.

As I walked around the event, I couldn’t help but think about how grateful I was to be there.

Last year, I wasn’t able to attend.

Not because I didn’t want to.

I was sick.

Back in 2025, I was going through a difficult season in my life, and there were a lot of things I simply couldn’t do. But this year was different.

God brought me through it.

God carried me through every doctor’s visit, every difficult day, every moment when I wasn’t sure what was ahead.

Standing there surrounded by people, food, laughter, and community reminded me of something important:

Sometimes we don’t realize how far we’ve come until we’re standing in a place we couldn’t stand before.

Storytime: A Free Book and a Sweet Surprise

Another thing that made my day was getting a new book.

The lady selling candles was giving away free books, and of course, y’all know I had to grab one.

It’s a scary book, and I can’t wait to read it.

One thing I’ve learned is that some of the best books come from the most unexpected places.

Some of my favorite books have been free books or books I picked up from Dollar Tree.

Y’all remember Take Me With You When You Go?

That book had me hooked from beginning to end.

It reminded me that a good story doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.

After the event, Auntie Wanda dropped us back off at home.

The kids relaxed, and Avery and I were both tired from being out.

While we were gone, Avery enjoyed some quiet time to himself and got some work done.

Then he surprised me.

Y’all…

Avery wrote me a song.

And it was actually sweet.

He knows how to sing, create beats, and rap too. It was nice hearing something he created himself.

Later that evening, Maria and I tried to watch a cartoon together.

Well, let me tell the truth.

I tried to get Maria interested in it.

She wasn’t having it.

Before long, she grabbed her tablet and headed upstairs for the night.

So Avery and I ended up watching the new animated movie starring Michael B. Jordan.

Now listen…

Don’t judge me because it was a cartoon.

Y’all know I’m a Michael B. Jordan fan.

A huge fan.

So yes, I enjoyed every minute of it.

After that, I finally called it a night and went to sleep.

But little did I know that Day 4 of this book was about to completely change the way I think.

Made to Last Forever: The Lesson That Hit Different

When I started reading Day 4, one thing immediately stood out to me.

The chapter talked about eternity.

Not temporary struggles.

Not temporary situations.

Eternity.

For some reason, it hit me differently than anything I’ve read so far.

I found myself talking to Avery about it.

I asked him a question.

“Avery, I didn’t know our bodies were temporary.”

And he looked at me like it was something he had always known.

But honestly?

I didn’t.

Growing up, I went to church.

I believed in God.

I prayed.

I talked to God.

But I never really sat down and read the Bible for myself.

The only person I remember really knowing the Bible well was my uncle.

Now that I’m reading and learning for myself, things are beginning to make sense in a whole new way.

Understanding That This Life Is Temporary

For years, I thought temporary meant difficult situations.

Financial struggles are temporary.

Pain is temporary.

Hard times are temporary.

But I never stopped to think that this body is temporary too.

This world is not our forever home.

That realization amazed me.

It was like suddenly understanding that we’re only passing through this life on our way to something much greater.

And honestly, it changed how I looked at everything.

The Question That Made Me Think

At the end of Day 4, there was a question that stayed on my mind all day:

Since I was made to live forever, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today?

After thinking about it, my answer became clear.

Things I Need to Stop Doing

  • Stop stressing.
  • Stop worrying about things I cannot control.
  • Stop trying to control situations beyond my control.
  • Stop carrying guilt.
  • Stop telling even the little lies.

The little lies count too.

If I want to grow, I have to be honest with myself and honest with the people around me.

Things I Need to Start Doing

  • Start embracing who I am.
  • Start taking better care of myself.
  • Start appreciating the people who truly love me.
  • Stop feeling guilty when I say no.
  • Stop worrying about whether everybody likes me.
  • Start living honestly and faithfully as the person God created me to be.

My Reflection on Day 4

Day 4 taught me something I wasn’t expecting.

I thought only my problems were temporary.

But Day 4 taught me that even this body is temporary.

And if this world is not my forever home, then I don’t want to spend my life worrying about things that won’t matter in eternity.

I want to spend my life loving people.

Growing.

Learning.

Being honest.

Serving God.

And becoming the woman He created me to be.

And the amazing thing is…

I’m only on Day 4.

Bible Verse

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:18

Motivational Quote

“When you focus on eternity, today’s struggles lose their power to define your future.”

A Moment of Reflection

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that this life is only part of the story. Help me to stop worrying about things I cannot control and trust You more each day. Teach me to live with purpose, love others well, and become the woman You created me to be. Help me focus on what truly matters and keep my eyes on You.

Amen.

Question for My Readers

What is one thing you need to stop doing and one thing you need to start doing if you knew your life was meant for eternity?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real and I’m still standing, still growing, and still becoming.

One Last Thought Before You Go

Life is full of chapters we don’t always understand while we’re living them. But I’m learning that sometimes the most powerful stories come from the moments we thought would break us.

And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s this: every season of life has a lesson waiting inside of it.

So here’s something I want you to think about today:

What is one moment in your life that changed the way you see yourself?

I would love to hear your story in the comments. Your experience might be the encouragement someone else needs today.

And if this message spoke to you, make sure you come back tomorrow… because I’ll be sharing another chapter of “The Untold Truth.”

Until next time,
